The International Folk Art Market invites you to a rare and immersive experience: a hands-on quilting workshop and pop-up sale led by renowned textile historian and curator Anitha N. Reddy, who participated and was a sponsored new artist at IFAM 2024! In this four-hour session, participants will explore the art of Siddi Kawandi quilting, a colorful and deeply rooted tradition from Karnataka, India.
But this is more than a quilting class. It’s an act of unlearning—an opportunity to set aside rigid stitching techniques and embrace intuitive, slow stitching guided by instinct and tradition.
Discover the history & techniques behind Siddi textiles, passed down through generations.
Learn by doing—piecing together scraps, stitch by stitch, in an immersive, hands-on experience.
Challenge what you know about quilting and creativity, embracing a process shaped by patience and improvisation.
Connect with tradition—and gain a deeper appreciation for the artistry and resilience of Siddi artisans.
