Gulmira Islomova, Suzani By Gulmira

Uzbekistan Nurota Style Suzani Embroidery

Born in the Nurota district of the Navoi region, Gulmira Islomova holds a deep-rooted connection to Uzbekistan’s rich craft traditions. Gulmira embraced her artistic lineage at a young age and began embroidering in the Nurota style, a skill she taught herself, inspired by her father’s artistry.

Gulmira’s passion for embroidery evolved from a hobby into a collaborative venture with her classmates. Together, they crafted pillows, sold them, and used the earnings to buy school supplies. Their success laid the foundation for Gulmira’s entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years, her skill in suzana embroidery flourished and so did the orders for her work. In 2018, she established her website and began selling online. Faced with the absence of payment services such as PayPal in Uzbekistan, Gulmira began contracting directly with clients.

Gulmira’s journey is marked by notable achievements, including being awarded second place in the 2019 Tashabbus competition in Tashkent, and recognition at international festivals. Her commitment to the art of embroidery is not only a personal endeavor but also a means of empowering women in remote regions of Uzbekistan, where she employs more than 400 people. Gulmira continues to innovate in embroidery, aspiring to build her personal brand and also collaborate with renowned global brands.
