Restoring Halishte's Heritage in Bulgaria

Dreams Company Ltd is one of the last remaining places dedicated to preserving and evolving Bulgaria’s heritage. These blankets, known for their exceptional warmth and comfort, embody a fusion of tradition and contemporary craftsmanship. They are also handmade from the wool of Karakachan sheep.

Known for their coarse, long fleece—some strands stretching up to 40 centimeters—these sheep produce wool prized for its natural insulation, perfect for enduring Bulgaria’s rugged climates.

The Karakachan sheep, an endangered breed native to Bulgaria, is part of a lineage of over 30 Bulgarian sheep breeds. Once dwindling in numbers during the early 20th century, conservation efforts, including those championed by Dreams Company, have brought renewed hope for their survival.

Bulgaria’s textile traditions are as radiant as its landscapes. They encompass elaborate weaving and embroidery in traditional garments like the women’s nosia, a Bulgarian tunic, and a cultural symbol dating back to the Renaissance. These designs, with their geometric patterns and vivid colors, reflect nature and life, preserving regional identities across generations.
