Artist Associates Team

The role of Artist Associates (formerly Artist Assistants) is evolving this year due to IFAM’s implementation of an electronic payment system. Volunteers are no longer required to write sales slips and hold packages for pickup after payment.
Are you…

  • Able to assist in booth set-up, including unpacking and displaying merchandise on Wednesday, July 7th or 14th, depending on the shift(s) you select?
  • Willing to ensure the booth remains clean and visually appealing during Market by optimizing the presentation of the merchandise (re-hanging clothing, folding scarves, etc.)?
  • Able to assist in packing up remaining merchandise after the Market closes on Sunday, July 11th or 18th if you’re scheduled to work the last shift of the day?
  • Comfortable being on your feet for extended periods of time and dealing with crowds?

If you answered “yes”, then this is a great opportunity for you to get involved in a way that will have a direct impact on the artists achieving a successful Market experience. This year we’ll be assigning each Artist Associate 5 booths to oversee. You’ll be responsible for checking in with each artist on a regular basis to see if they need assistance tidying up their booth, assisting with customers if the artist looks overwhelmed, watching the booth if the artist needs to step away to take a break, etc. We’ll also ask you to keep a close eye on the Market artists who’re exhibiting for the first time and provide assistance as needed. This year we’re asking each Artist Associate to commit to a minimum of 2 shifts.

Artist and Volunteer Hospitality

This team provides both artists and volunteers with coffee, tea, cold beverages, and a variety of prepackaged snacks throughout the day during Market hours. There will be indoor and outside tasks;  hopefully volunteers will be agreeable to alternate between the two locations during their shift. All volunteers for this team are asked to be vaccinated we will be handling food.  New volunteers to this team will be interviewed by a Co-Chair to make sure you are placed appropriately within team tasks. There is some heavy lifting but it is not a requirement for everyone on all shifts. Help keep artists and volunteers stay energized and happy!

First Aid and Covid Safe Practices Team

At this year’s Market, health and safety will be a top priority.  IFAM is in need of medical volunteers to help with attending to people who need fIrst aid assistance as well as people to help ensure that we are having a healthy and safe event for the public, the volunteers and the artists.  We are specifically looking for people who are medically qualified (Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, Medical Assistants, and Doctors).

Front of House Team

Market Front of House volunteers are the face of the Market! They make sure that attendees make their way into and out of the market as seamlessly and comfortably as possible. As such, volunteers should have outgoing personalities and be physically able to move between positions in order to assist patrons, ensure their safety and solve any problems. Front of House volunteers need to be willing to spend time ahead of the market training either in person or by phone to ensure they are knowledgeable about how patrons enter the market, how to operate ticket scanners, and how guests will exit to avoid confusion. In addition to this, the Front of House team will also walk the line and make announcements as people wait to get into Market. Front of House is a very physical job; volunteers are often moving around a majority of the time. Some Front of House volunteers will operate as ticket scanners using a handheld device provided by HMT, our ticket vendor. Although we will provide training on how to use the devices, this job will require a level of technical familiarity. All Front of House volunteers should also feel comfortable helping guests navigate to their tickets on their phones.

ABQ Airport Greeters

Albuquerque Airport Greeters welcome artists at the Albuquerque Sunport in early July. They help collect luggage,  ensure that the artists have encountered no problems, then assist them in getting to the correct shuttle to Santa Fe.

Schedule Notes: Artists begin arriving into Albuquerque up to two weeks before the Market, with the bulk of arrivals happening on the Monday and Tuesday of Market Week. We ask you to indicate your availability on those dates, in 4-hour shifts, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and ending at midnight. Once we have flight information for all arriving artists, we will do our best to match your stated availability with artist flights. Please note that flights may be delayed or changed, so please be flexible. Because shifts are completed prior to the beginning of Market, you may opt to volunteer an additional shift during Market. Team Notes: All shifts for this team take place at the ABQ Sunport. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation to the Sunport. IFAM will endeavor to secure free parking nearby for volunteers.

Ambiance Decor

Ambiance Décor volunteers turn Museum Hill into a colorful, bustling global marketplace starting 2-3 days before Market. Schedule Notes: The bulk of the work takes place in late June and early July and extends a few days past Market with décor teardown and storage. There are a few limited shifts during the Market, which allow team members to volunteer in other areas or to attend Market events. Signing up for multiple days and for full-day shifts is extremely helpful because of the training involved, but shorter shifts and commitments are also available. Team Notes: This team works outdoors a great deal, and décor tasks may involve lifting up to 10 pounds, using a stepladder, and bending down and/or reaching overhead.

Art Valet

We are looking for a Volunteer Chair and volunteers for the Art Valet Team. At this year’s Market, guests will have the opportunity to ‘coat check’ their purchases during their time at the event.  This gives guests who have made heavy purchases, or who have just made a lot of purchases, the chance to safely stash their items until they are getting ready to leave.  Volunteers on the Art Valet team will help to give itemized tickets to guests and will assist with safely storing their items until they come back to gather them before they leave the Market.

Handypersons

Handyperson volunteers help make the artists’ booths retail-ready by hanging mirrors and delivering garment racks that these volunteers also help assemble. Duties might include attaching screws so artists can hang their work, moving tables and lifting boxes. Schedule Notes: This team has shifts that begin a few days before Market.  Team Notes: We ask these team members to bring a set of basic tools along for their shifts.

Market Signs

Market Signs volunteers work before the Market to assemble and install signs, and after the Market to take down and inventory signs. Many volunteers will be needed only during dedicated pre-Market weekend workdays. This team needs volunteers who are somewhat agile and relatively fit. Activity includes moving from station to station, climbing a step-ladder to attach signs (and later detach then), and performing basic handiwork–tying knots, inserting signs into holders, etc. Minimal lifting. Most shifts will be inside a tent or under a roof; a few tasks may be done outdoors in the sun.
