Poynt Cashiers

For this year’s Market, Cashiers will be the Volunteers working closest with the artists to assist them in sales. If you were an Artist Assistant in the past, this is the role for you. Friendly cashiers will use our brand new, handheld Poynt system to check out market shoppers from the booths. We will have one cashier stationed for every four artists. If you have an artist preference based on previous experience, you may note that in your application and we will try to place you in their area.

First Aid and Covid Safe Practices Team

 IFAM is in need of medical volunteers to help with attending to people who need fIrst aid assistance as well as people to help ensure that we are having a healthy and safe event for the public, Volunteers, and artists. We are specifically looking for people who are medically qualified (Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, Medical Assistants, and Doctors). Team Notes: Please note that signing up for this team does not mean you are automatically registered, we will reach out and confirm your schedule if selected.

Front of House Team

We are looking for a Volunteer Chair and volunteers for this team. This team is the face of the Market! They make sure that attendees make their way into and out of the Market as seamlessly and comfortably as possible. Volunteers will scan tickets as patrons enter the event, assist with a variety of questions, and help guests purchase tickets if needed. Some Front of House Volunteers will operate as ticket scanners using a handheld device, although we will provide training on how to use the devices, this job will require a level of technical familiarity. Team Notes: This position will require standing and working in the sun. This is a customer service position that will help to enhance a positive Market experience for all.
*Mandatory training is required for all team members.

Interpreters

Interpreters provide language interpretation for artists during midweek training, International Folk Art Market panel discussions/demonstrations, and during the Market in their booth, all to help the artists tell their stories and share information about their work and their culture. We invite any multilingual/bilingual Volunteers to apply, but please note this year we are looking for Spanish, French, Haitian Creole, Hindi & Gujarati, Urdu, Nepali, Egyptian Arabic, and Russian speakers.

Volunteer Coordination and Check-In Team

This team supports all volunteers behind the scenes with:

Volunteer Coordination & Check-In: Volunteer Coordinators are the backbone of the Market, supporting with Volunteer registration, arranging pick up of vital volunteer items like t-shirts and badges, coordinating volunteer trainings at the IFAM Center, and Volunteer Check-In during the Market. This is a great position for returning Volunteers who would like to be able to sit during their shift.  Schedule Notes: Shifts begin two weeks prior to Market.

ABQ Airport Greeters

ABQ Airport Greeters are the first to welcome artists at the Albuquerque Sunport in early July. They help collect luggage and assist artists in finding the shuttle to Santa Fe. Please note that flights may be delayed or changed, so please be flexible. Because shifts are completed prior to the beginning of Market, you may opt to volunteer an additional shift during Market. Team Notes: All shifts for this team take place at the ABQ Sunport. Volunteers will need to provide their own transportation to the Sunport.

This creatively gifted and vision-oriented team turns Museum Hill into a colorful, bustling global marketplace starting about 3 weeks before Market. Team Notes: This team works primarily outdoors, requiring some heavy lifting, using a step-ladder, bending down, and reaching overhead.

Artist Arrivals, Departures, & Check-Ins

This dedicated team of Volunteers is stationed at Santa Fe’s Sage Hotel. They assist artists as they arrive with checking into their hotel rooms, setting them up with a welcome bag, and assisting with their arrival. A great team for Volunteers who want a more intimate experience away from the Market. Schedule Notes: This team works primarily prior to Market.

This year we will feature a select number of artist demonstrations on Museum Hill during Market hours. This team will coordinate directly with artists to make sure they are prepared in advance of, and day of their demonstrations

Art Valet

At this year’s Market, guests will have the opportunity to ‘coat check’ their purchases during their time at the event. Volunteers on the Art Valet team will help to give itemized tickets to guests and will assist with safely storing their items until they come back to gather them before they leave the Market.

Artist and Volunteer Hospitality

Artist & Volunteer Hospitality oversees the Artist & Volunteer Hospitality Tent, where beverages, snacks, and good cheer are provided! By volunteering on this team you’ll have the opportunity to meet all of the IFAM Volunteers and artists from around the country and world. Artist Assistant

 The role of Artist Assistants has changed from previous years, instead of being assigned to one artist and working in one booth, Artist Assistants will now be assigned to one area where they will assist four artists as needed. Artist Assistants are no longer expected to act as cashiers or write invoices, instead, they will work closely with the artists, essentially fulfilling any task they may need help with.  Working as an AA may be very busy, with numerous requests. Due to this change, it is no longer possible to request one singular artist to work with.  *Mandatory training is required for all Artist Assistants.

The Artist Development team will work directly with Market artists and IFAM staff both prior to, and during the Market to make sure artists have everything they need for a successful experience. This is a dynamic team that will get a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes work that IFAM does.

Artist Lunches

These Volunteers deliver lunches to artists during set-up on Wednesday, and throughout the Market. Team Notes: Tasks for this team may include maneuvering through busy crowds to reach artists and deliver their box lunches.

Bike Valet

Bike Valet Volunteers check-in attendees’ bikes, guarding them while the owners attend the Folk Ark Market, and then returning the bike when the owner comes to pick it up.

Block Captains

Block Captains are responsible for overseeing one of the four quadrants of the Market, ensuring that artists and Volunteers have what they need throughout the day. This is an excellent position for anyone familiar with the layout and schedule of the Market.

Booth Set-Up & Break Down

We are looking for a Volunteer Chair and volunteers for this team. Booth Set-Up & Break Down Volunteers help the artists set up and dismantle their booths prior to the opening of the Market and after the last Sunday session. Team Notes: Unless requested by an artist, booth set-up is not artist-specific. We distribute the team among all artists as they need assistance.

Poynt Cashier Pit Bosses

Poynt Cashier Pit Bosses are assigned to one area as floating managers. These managers assist all cashiers and troubleshoot. This is an ideal position for those who have previously volunteered as a Poynt Cashier or are willing to learn about the Poynt system.

Booth Supplies

 Booth Supplies Volunteers provide critical assistance to the Market by packing the supplies that are provided by the Market, and used by artists and Artist Assistants, to properly display and sell their art at the Market. Schedule Notes: This team works a few shifts both pre and post-Market.

Community Celebration

Community Celebration Volunteers prepare for and conduct the Community Celebration – the kick-off event for the International Folk Art Market.  Tasks include setting up and decorating for the event in the downtown Santa Fe Plaza and coordinating artist and student participants for the Artist Procession. They also perform crowd control for the procession route, ensuring safe and efficient passage for the artists to the Plaza. Schedule Notes: This team Volunteers for 1 day only – Tuesday, July 5.

This year a group of International Folk Art Market artists will be returning to Dallas Market Center in late June. If you are interested in Volunteering and are physically able to attend Dallas, we are looking for Artist Assistants, Cashiers, Language Translators, and Exhibitor Set-Up/Break Down Volunteers.

Entertainment & Stage Volunteers assist with live music and dance performances held on the Folk Art Market Stage.

Handypersons

Handypersons Volunteers help make the artists’ booths retail-ready by hanging mirrors and delivering garment racks that these volunteers also help assemble. Duties might include attaching screws so artists can hang their work, moving tables, and lifting boxes. Team Notes: We ask these team members to bring a set of basic tools along for their shifts.

Market Greeters

 Market Greeters are the first point of contact for Market guests. They will be stationed on and off of Museum Hill directing visitors to and from their respective parking lots, ensuring that guests are headed in the right direction.

Market Signs

Market Signs Volunteers begin working before the Market to assemble and install all Market signage, they also work after the Market to take down and inventory signs. Schedule Notes: This team begins working approximately 2 weeks prior to Market. Team Notes: This team will be working outdoors in the sun, lifting, using a staple gun, walking the full Market grounds, and climbing stepladders when needed.

Office Volunteers help with Market preparations. Tasks include phone calls, data entry, project assembly, and a variety of other activities that may happen leading up to the Market. Schedule Notes: This team does not work a set schedule.

Opening Night Party

Opening Night Party Volunteers assist in setting up IFAM’s invitation-only party on Wednesday night. This group of volunteers should be committed to helping wherever is needed to ensure a successful opening event.

Production

Assist the IFAM Production Team with key logistics before and during the event. Be available to help with a variety of tasks, including artist production needs, Volunteer needs, onsite setup, delivery, offsite errands, etc. We’re looking for people who don’t mind a dynamic work environment with quickly shifting responsibilities. Team Notes: Please note this team requires physical labor, walking across the Museum Hill site, and working outdoors.

Water Team

Water Team Volunteers help keep both artists and Market visitors hydrated by refilling guests’ water bottles at the Market’s three water stations. This is a great position for energetic and friendly people who like to work with others and pride themselves on providing excellent customer service. Team Notes: Please note Water Team shifts do require some physical mobility and light lifting.
