Penny Singer

Contemporary Diné Fashion

Watching her mother sew traditional clothes, Diné fashion designer Penny Singer began sewing at an early age. A self-taught artist, it wasn’t until her time at the Institute of American Indian Arts that she began seriously pursuing a career in fashion. Today she crafts fashion forward designs inspired by her Diné heritage. Initially specializing in dance regalia and ribbon shirts, Singer has expanded her designs to include men’s and women’s shirts, jackets, vests, capes, and accessories.

Born in Farmington, New Mexico, Singer is now based in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she works from her studio.

Penny Singer is nominated by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture to represent the United States.
