We are very pleased that you are considering applying for participation in the world’s largest and most important International Folk Art Market.
It’s been 17 years since the founding of the Market and we have enjoyed the participation of over 1000 artists who have made sales of over 34 million dollars.
The year 2020 was a very difficult one for artists around the world and we have been very concerned about your well-being and your ability to continue your craft to support yourselves, your families and your communities.
The application process is a rigorous one and it will provide our Selection Committee an accurate way to review your work and make a determination about your participation in 2022.
The IFAM Board of Directors, the staff and I and our thousands of volunteers look forward to 2022 as a celebratory year where we are able to enjoy the sharing that takes place among the artists and our community.
The Selection and Placement Committees have been working diligently for almost 18 months to create this simplified application so that you can give us as much information about yourselves and your work without a great deal of effort.
We are eagerly anticipating seeing your work through the images you send and learning about your traditions, innovations and your lives as artists in your home countries. I look forward to reading your stories and seeing the photographs of your work
Thank you for sharing the magic of the International Folk Art Market.

Chief Executive Officer
IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- IFAM welcomes applications from traditional folk artists whose work reflects time-honored community-based traditions, and artists who are inspired by these cultural traditions but who may also innovate upon them. Contemporary items that do not demonstrate an innovation of a tradition may not be accepted.
- Individual artists, cooperatives, non-profit organizations, businesses or individual sponsors are eligible to apply.
- The work you submit must have been made within the past five years.
- Since there are many venues open to American folk artists to show and sell their work, participation in the International Folk Art Market is limited to artists who reside outside the United States or who have legally immigrated to the United States and actively create folk art that is consistent with the traditions of their native country.
- There is no fee to apply
