Santa Fe, New Mexico—-TradiSon, a returning favorite from five years ago will be playing a free concert for the Santa Fe community at the International Folk Art Market | Santa Fe’s Community Celebration and Artist Procession on Thursday, July 13, 2017.
The annual Artists’ Procession, featuring more than 100 Market artists, all in colorful national dress, begins at 6:00pm.
TradiSon is known as the house band at the La Bodeguita del Medio restaurant in Havana, celebrated for its mojitos and its storied clientele, including Ernest Hemingway and Pablo Neruda. They play Cuban music known as ‘son’ – a traditional style that combines Afro-Cuban rhythms with Spanish melodies. The band features a singer, a stand-up bass player, a percussionist, a guitarist and a ‘tres’ player, the guitar-like instrument, unique to Cuba. Theirs is the music of the countryside, the music that most Cubans grow up on, and those who play it are known are “soneros.”
TradiSon was formed with the goal of presenting the best Cuban musical roots, including guaracha, guajira, bolero, and more. TradiSon exudes joy in every performance, whether in restaurants, nightclubs, or concert halls. Charismatic lead singer Gilberto Noriega (Cuquito) possesses a unique voice and a gift for improvisation. Benito Torres (El Beny), a connoisseur of country music, collected much of the repertoire of ballads, and accompanies them with the unique guitar style of the Cuban countryside. Percussionist Amaury Rodriguez is the youngest member of the group, bringing rock band experience and a salsa groove. The group is rounded out by Miguel Delgado, on the traditional Cuban tres, and Guillermo Linares on bass and vocals.
TradiSon will also play the opening night of the International Folk Art Market, on Friday, July 14 from 6:00-9:00pm, on Museum Hill.
