Aidai Asangulova grew up in a family of felt makers. As a teenager, she helped her father make yurts and was responsible for their decoration. While studying at the Kyrgyz State University, she developed her own unique technique for fusing wool felt and silk. After she graduated she worked for several art studios, but eventually developed her own brand, “Aidai,” that utilizes her seamless rolled felt technique. She now runs her own studio and is the founder of a women’s handicraft cooperative in her village that has 30 members and operates as a small business.
